Prologue
Knowledge: Rebirth and Restoration

He awoke, his arms stretched out like eagle wings, the warm dew of morning was sprinkled all across his with face, and the soft yet wet grass greeted him.
His eyes stared at the gorgeous morning sky, and he heard the sound of songbirds whistle sweet songs through the morning air.

As he hunched forward,
He lifted both of his arms to where he could examine each of the exact details of his hand. When was done gazing at those, he looked at his long snow-white coat, with odd patterns embedded in grey that stretched as far as the bottom of his calves.
To where he stood at his feet, there were odd indeed, like those of a raven’s or
A dragon’s. He stood up, he seemed confused, and he looked down.

The ground seemed to be lower than it was before, he turned his head moments later and noticed a small pond, in which he gazed deeply at it.
He looked at the details of his head, what appeared to be 8 bulky quills stood straight up in the air, and yet versatile enough to wave in the wind.
His face was astonishing to him too; He had two broad eyes, each with a black pupil and a crimson cornea.
These were the only features on his whitish grey mask-like face, all but 2 markings above each of his pairs of eyes, they were as black as his skin, and were sharp and curvy.

One question remained to him now…..

“Just what am I?!” He asked himself whilst still pondering it heavily.
He stood there near the small barren pond, with the fingers of his left arm grasping his chin, as pulled into a sort of thinking stature.

He stood for about a few minutes this way, continuing to ponder, until;
Something grabbed the attention of his right eye.

The sun’s rays glistened off an object about 30 feet away in some grass to the west.
His curiosity got the better of him; he just had to know what it was.
He strolled over to the grassy spot, to find the glimmering object.

It was a book, not just any book, this book had some sort of plated insignia on it, he picked it up, and he noticed the center of the insignia was silver and had what appeared to be a face with eye slots, similar to the details of his own face, minus the markings.
Beside this face were what appeared to be wings of some sort?
No, he had a feeling that there were quills, like the ones atop his head.
Below it all, were odd looking characters of text, to the likes he had never seen before.
Yet….somehow, he could read them as clear as the morning sun he had so witnessed when he awoke minutes ago.
He read it in his mind.

“The Knowledge of Our people….” He thought scanning the title.
The book appeared to have no author, he even checked the spine, and back of the book, no luck. He was even more puzzled now, “a book with no author and the insignia on the cover reminds me of my own reflection, what strange things are happening on this day!” He exclaimed to himself.

But he had a great hunch, that this book may have the answers that he was seeking for himself, so without more than a moment’s hesitation, he gently opened the cover, then..

*plop…* a drop of rain hit the silver plated insignia cover of the book.
Then another one…
And another one…
And another droplet….

Soon it began to pour from lightly to heavily, without another thought, he opened his jacket and stashed the book in his coat to protect it from the downpour, the rain was getting heavier, and he began to look for shelter, twisting his neck in every direction for a even a small tree he could hide under and begin reading.
Luckily, about 100 meters to the South was a make shift cave, created by the position of two large slanted boulders. Again, with without another thought, he sprinted as fast as he could to the opening and to his surprise he was at the mouth of the cave within seconds.

He didn’t stay surprised for long; he ducked down and crawled into the deepest part of the small cave, His skin some how wasn’t incredibly wet, but his coat and pants were soaked heavily.

He hoped that the book he had been carrying wasn’t damaged to the point his clothing was, he quickly pulled it out.
And again he was very fortunate, little to no damage affected the book, it was in a perfect state of condition.
He awed at this for a moment then opened the cover page, and began to read.
The storm raged outside, but thanks to slight deepness of the cave, he managed to stay dry and content, with the only annoyance being the pitter-patter of the heavy rainfall.
He opened the book the first page; it contained an opening paragraph, with the same characters as were on the title page, and he still had no difficulty reading it.

“We....
Are the people who have taken the name NeoDammerus upon ourselves, and we have written this book to educate those of our students and those who are chroniclers to read and partake of the knowledge we have gathered as race, all of our achievements, history, sciences, and mathematics, have been placed in this book, for your benefit….” It read.

“Neodammerus?” He thought to himself, this struck him with a sense of more familiarity.
“Maybe that’s what I am…” He said to himself, examining his hands, “NeoDammerus!”
He exclaimed to himself in joy.
He turned the pages of the inspirational book, and began to read further.
As the storm continued its rage of water and wind, he was learning; Mathematics, Many Different Sciences, Literature elements, History of the ‘NeoDammerus’ people as well as there anatomy, a mysterious aura known as Zengai, Geography, Technologic achievements, Religion, and Culture.
He studied all these things within the pages of the book, for the space of many hours.
And soon the storm passed, and the gentle beams of the golden sun rained down from the sky and dried the fallen tears of the finished storm.
He emerged from the mouth of the cave holding the book closed between his long black left arm, his clothes were spotted with mud, as he sat in the dirt and mud of the cave floor.
But most of all he emerged with a theory in his mind.

He must have suffered some sort of amnesia or memory loss, yes that what it was.
How? He wasn’t completely sure, but it seemed like the only possible explanation.

His goal now was to get back home, but he didn’t know where he was.
He sat down pondering his next move when he remembered the map, near the beginning of the book he picked up.
He opened right up to the exact page and within a few minutes knew where he was.
He was exactly were he wanted to be, somewhat…
He was standing on the grounds of the city of Kharyabhor the Great NeoDammerian city,
He sat down absolutely astonished.

The position and latitude that they had put in the book had been precise, they had the exact location of the land laid out scientifically.
Yet there was no city, no ruins, nothing…nothing at all...
Yet by the description of the book, he was on the Great Plains of Equio, and when he looked around he spotted the Oleyf River, But the way the book put it is that all the towns and cities were found near Kharyahbor, and th3e despite the hugeness of the plains,
All of them could be seen from nearly 100 kilometers away from each other...
He was now more puzzled then ever before...

He thought of every theory possible, but when he tried to examine for it, he had no absolute proof.
He sat there for an hour in the damp grass near the rock that had sheltered him during the downpour.
Already he was stressed out, as his mind was exhausted from the heavy thinking.

Then he thought again, “Wait! What about the underground city of Enconis, it was the only city that could not be seen from above ground.
Then another thought crossed his mind, “if the other cities just disappear with no evidence of anything, then that could mean that the same exact fate befell Enconis…”
He expelled the thought, he had to check, and he had to have hope.

Then yet another thought got in his mind, this one more needed.
“What is my name?” He thought.

He stopped, and again pondered as hard as he could, he needed to know his name.
That might help him.
Letters stuttered into his thoughts.
“D...De…Deu…Deux...” he stopped, as his mind went blank, it was all he could salvage, for now at least.

“Deux is it then…” Said Deux in a content tone to himself, satisfied that he could partially remember some of his name, (as he assumed it was longer)

After his enlightenment, he ran at an eager pace to the location of Enconis’s tunnel entrance.
Within a minutes, (but to eager Deux, an eternity)
He was at the mouth of the tunnel to the underground city of Enconis…
But there was no cave only a collection of boulders and shattered rocks,
The cave was not there….
Deux was on the edge of depression, he had answers, no ideas, and no confidence.

He was frustrated beyond belief.
He was walking back to the rock that had sheltered him, as it was the shelter that was close and familiar as he grew weary,
His thoughts still slithered around in his like serpents,
“It is almost like the NeoDammerai did not exist at all, yet that cannot be true as there is this book I hold, and as I am a NeoDammerai. So what is the answer to this paradox?” Deux thought.
Suddenly he stopped, and sat down.

It was late-afternoon, and the sun was setting, nightfall we be upon him soon enough.
He grew closer to were he resided previously, but then stopped.

In his path was a flower…
But not just any flower, a Rose…The NeoDammerian flower of hope, Phentos Rixxe...
The Night Rose….

He knelt down, and gently stroked its Blackish-grey petals, and touched its white stem.
As he had read in text, this rose was the symbol of hope for the NeoDammerai.

Deux suddenly felt different, he felt hopefully, just by the mere sight of this spectacular flower. He dare not pick it, as he wanted to respect it.

And within moments more, he realized what purpose he know had, he had to find his people, he must search the world in search of them, even just the smallest remnant of his civilization.
That was his new goal, his mantra, his destiny.
Tomorrow, he would set out, tomorrow the search began.

Author’s Notes: This was kinda’ off difficult to write, it is rather to explain exactly, but the whole amnesia and trying to provide detail and description of the land, Deux, his conflict, and everything else was a bit of a challenge to me, I am only an amateur writer, so I don’t think I executed this perfectly, but nonetheless, I hope the conflict is made clear and pleasant to read.

In the first part, your sentence structure isn't varied enough. Other than that, bravo.
